Real Thankfulness for Thanksgiving

November 19, 2018

What comes to your mind when you think of Thanksgiving? Is it the excitement of delicious feasts, the gathering of the entire family, or staying out all night for Black Friday deals. Or does it bring scary thoughts of how busy and hectic we are all about to become in the season ahead of us? Some people dread the holidays in whole because of lost loved ones that are not with them this holiday.   What if we looked at Thanksgiving in a different way this year?

"Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever! Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for His wondrous works to the children of man! For He satisfies the longing souls, and the and the hungry soul He fills with good things."

Psalms 107:1,8-9

Through every holiday, and every passing day; God is good!  Some of the meanings of steadfast are: loyal, faithful, committed, devoted, dependable, dedicated, reliable, steady, true,  constant, solid. That is an incredible love!

God satisfies our longing soul, He doesn't have to, but He does. The hungry soul He fills with good things and we know He takes care of us and will feed us spiritually.  What a gift to be thankful for!

"I will give thanks to you LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds."

Psalms 9:1

Thanksgiving is just one of the perfect times of the year to remember just how much He has done for us, and is doing for us. In doing that, we can reflect that love and share it with others so they can understand the joy we as Christians have in Christ.

I would love for you, through this time, to love people extra because you never know who is hurting and needing that kind word. Be grateful for all that you do have whether it's a roof over your head, clothes on your body, or a body of believers in the church we can so heavily rely on.  We should take Thanksgiving this year and change it from that hectic, busy, lonely holiday and turn it into a holiday to reach out more to people and have more patience and to also speak kindly to others. It is our job as Christians to show the love of Christ, and let us set an example and be thankful in all things!

"And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name."

1 Chronicles 29:13
