"the father of glory may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you."
The Spirit, having wisdom and revelation due to the knowledge He (the Spirit is a person) has of God, enlightens us. We are enlightened in such a way that you and I can know the hope that we have.
When Paul mentions this "hope" he is not referring to what many of us often think of when it comes to hope. For us hope is often a synonym with "wishful thinking." The type of hope we encounter throughout the day is much different than the type of hope Paul is talking about. Paul's hope is to be seen as a truth that we have yet too receive. Since we have yet to receive the complete work of God's salvation, His work to bring us to Him, we have not received the entire work of God. With the knowledge of what God is doing we can see and have a confident hope in what He is doing in His salvation work.
God has been gracious to call me into the grace of Jesus which is my only eternal hope. Yet I often blind myself to the greatnesses fo the hope and how lovely it is to KNOW the hope I have. I do not have to wonder IF my hope is real, I can KNOW.
God don't let me take for granted the hope that I know that I have in You. I am forever grateful of this assurance you have given me. Amen.
